The exhibit spans eight chapters, guiding viewers through eras of music and the iconic artists that defined them. Spending months on this project, I brought archival imagery to life through design and animation, and tag-teamed with the in-house Good Company team, and many talented animators. Animating at this scale was a new experience, and I learned so much alongside a supportive and amazing team of artists. Stylistically, I adapted to a generalized sleek digital look, but I had the honor of bringing some mixed-media love through a collage montage for the “Punk” subsection of the “Hair” chapter. This impressive experience was debuted in March 2025, and made possible through months of work (2024-2025) from the incredible studio team at ︎︎︎Good Company and the amazing animators brought on to the project. AMPLIFIED was outfitted for ︎︎︎Illuminarium in Las Vegas, and has since been adapted for viewing at ARTECHOUSE in NYC and Houston, TX. Created with the folks at Black Heart, Black Luminaries tasks players to travel through time in this bespoke hidden object game, finding clues within an environment to uncover the identity of an iconic Black innovator. Black Luminaries was a single-event immersive experience commissioned by the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey for the 2026 Juneteenth Innovation Expo. I was responsible for the art direction and design of the game, from pitching design approaches to producing all design deliverables. Based on the visual language and storyboard I established, I lead my team through game logic and narrative throughout our closely collaborative process. Ideas were shared and refined in tandem, ensuring a cohesive and engaging game for the Juneteenth Business Expo. I had the chance to experiment with AI generated assets, maintaining the visual fusion of high-tech and analog approaches by treating each asset with a hand-made mixed media pass and stop-motion animation. This contrasting visual language created the breathing room for in-person game immersion, while honoring the nostalgic playfulness of an “I-Spy” type of gameplay. I loved the opportunity to experiment with a refined futuristic design and am so happy with our team for creating a rewarding and super informative installation together. Our aim was to honor Roy Hargrove's "lightness of spirit" with a playful yet sophisticated perspective. Throughout this piece, we seamlessly integrated various visual animation styles, paying homage to Hargrove’s genre-defying performances throughout his extensive career. Abstract and loose linework mirror the "lightness of spirit" that resonated in every note Hargrove played, ultimately shaping the modern musical landscape. Lively accent colors and dynamic animation acknowledge the intricate syncopation of jazz and echo the "jolt of youth" that Hargrove infused into the genre. To maintain a modern and refreshed approach to jazz, we used a clean digital sans serif, with assets and shapes maintaining defined edges.
